Facing Sinusitis Problem? Pollen Allergies?

Jal Neti is an Yogic technique which cures all diseases related to eyes, nose, throat and brain. My sinusitis problems has got better after I started doing Jal Neti. I don't need to take pain killers for my headache and anti-allergic medicines for my blocked nose any longer. This technique worked like miracle for me.

A man doing Jal Neti
Technique: Arrange a Jal Neti vessel(1 liter). You can see the man holding the vessal in the picture.

Fill it with luke warm fresh water, add a pinch of table salt, look for the warmth of the water which should be OK for your sensitive nasal mucosa . Stand in open and check for the nostril (swans) which is working, meaning, slowly blow out air from each nostril and find out which one is more clear. Suppose its right, now hold the neti vessel in right palm, bring the tip of the vessel tube to the opening of the right nostril, press it gently to check that there is no space between the tip of the tube and nostril opening, keep the left arm folded at the back. Now open your mouth wide and keep lifting the right palm holding the vessel up together with the right nostril. At one point you would feel that water starts entering through your right nostril slowly and coming out in drops or may be in in gentle streamline from the left nostril. Here one may get irritation as the water enters the septum region of the internal nasal chambers, but please stabilise and bear with it as this sensation goes off quickly. One has to just relax, keep taking deep breath from wide open mouth, look at distant flowers, trees or any other pleasing thing. Remember, don't breath from the nose, you should breath from mouth. You need not worry if water makes it way from the mouth also in the beginning.

Having finished with about half the water of the vessel, then repeat this same process with the remaining nostril. If you have a 1/2 litre vessal, then you can fill the vessal again for the second nostril.

The stream of water from both the nostrils will not be same depending on the blokade or nervous spasms. Do the whole exercise gently and in relaxed posture. One can wipe the nostrils with clean linen/towel in between while changing the nostrils.

Having finished with the water part just keep both arms at bach and start blowing nose vigrously from alternate nostril(15-20 times) inorder to remove every drop of water. Now look up for 15 seconds and while looking up again blow 10-15 time to blow off any residual water left. Having finished with the blowing part now go to your exercise room or in open space, lie down in Shawasan (corpse position) for 10 minites.

Your Jal Neti Exercise, is over. You can do Jal Neti in the morning or in the evening and continue for about a month and review your health. If you start feeling better then you can do this exercise as and when required.

If the subject is of nervous, paniky, in anxiety, mood problems, or problem with temperament he/she will be highly prone to Sinus/cold/infections problems.

In case you find difficulty in obtaining Jal Net Vessel, you should contact a Yoga school and get it from there. Please use Jal Neti vessal only as other vessals may cause some problem in the movement of water. A beginner should seek the help of an expert in learning this technique.

To get relief at the time of emergencies you can use one of the following techniques:
1. Heat up 5 tps Ajwain on a pan(dry) place it hot on a thin hankerchief and wrap it around your forehead/neck. One can take smell of Ajwain smoke to get quick relief. You can look for Ajwain in a store selling spices from India.
2. Steam inhalation also works wonders.
